Mexico's Industrias Peñoles (BMV: PE&OLES) reported its Madero and Sabinas zinc mines, and Fresnillo operation - the world's largest silver mine - are halted due to strikes to protest the arrest of two union representatives on Thursday (Dec 4).
However, the La Ciénega and La Herradura silver mines continued operating normally, the company reported in a statement to the Mexico City stock exchange BMV.
Peñoles added that it hopes Mexican authorities will intervene to put an end to the strikes.
The world's largest primary silver producer, Peñoles made profits of 901mn pesos (US$66.3mn) in Q3.
In the quarter, the company produced 88,385oz gold, 11.6Moz silver, 15,356t lead, 45,229t zinc and 7,123t copper, compared to 90,188oz gold, 11.6Moz silver, 15,845t lead, 50,328t zinc and 5,674t copper year-on-year.
