Info. Technology - Chile - Pragma aims for US$4mn in 2009

Chilean IT services firm Pragma Informática aims for sales to reach US$4mn in 2009 and surpass US$3mn this year, the company's commercial manager Dionisio González told BNamericas.

Sales this year will represent approximately a 30% increase over the combined revenues of Pragma and Business Ahead - two companies which merged early this year.

With operations since 1997, Pragma Informática has alliances with Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT). According to González, Oracle recently named Pragma as one of its three main partners in Chile, and that classification, along with the firm's financial background, will be key in future revenue growth.

Pragma has traditionally focused on companies in the financial services and retail segments, having among its clients firms such as ING, BICE, Penta Vida, Banco Santander, Falabella, Cencosud and TVN.

"We are currently working on strengthening our efforts in the salmon and aquaculture industries, in addition to increasing our presence within the financial services vertical by offering more core solutions," González said.

In relation to the aquaculture industry, the executive said Pragma is applying to Chile's state development agency Corfo for funding for an innovative program. However, González was not able to provide further details on this matter.

González, who spoke on the sidelines of the Oracle Open Day that took place in Santiago, said the company has been strengthening its partnership with Oracle by hiring more specialized people in Oracle's technologies.

"Oracle is making an investment and we are making an investment to increase the revenues coming from Oracle's technologies licenses. We sell databases, Fusion Middleware and business intelligence within a specific market," he said.

"This is a new challenge because in addition to increasing sales of licenses we have an opportunity developing new services. And for each dollar Oracle earns for a license, we can earn US$2-3 on services," González added.

Pragma has some 70 employees and is ISO 9001:2000 certified; it also works under the CMMi maturity level two model.
