Electric Power - Colombia - Emgesa presents plan for 14 Sumapaz mini hydros

Power group Endesa Chile'sEmgesa subsidiary has presented a plan to Colombia's environment ministry to develop 14 mini hydro plants in Sumapaz Massif south of Bogotá, the company said in a statement.

Each plant would add roughly 20MW of capacity to the country's national grid, bringing the total capacity of the project to 245MW.

The project would cost around US$450mn if all plants were developed, an Emgesa spokesperson told BNamericas.

While studies for the project originally began in the 1970s, the integrated plan was presented to clarify the process needed to obtain full environmental approval for the project.

Sumapaz Massif is the southernmost municipality of Colombia's federal district.

Emgesa also is developing the 400MW El Quimbo hydro project in Huila department.
