Venezuelan mobile broadband operator Movilmax expects to sell approximately 2,000 packages including laptop and WiMax wireless broadband services by the end of the year, company CEO Dick Abanto told BNamericas.
Early this month, Movilmax and US IT company Intel signed an agreement to launch the combined offering in the local market.
"The first stage of the agreement includes two or three laptops and our USB modem. During a second stage, Intel expects to market laptops with an embedded WiFi/WiMax chip so the user will have no need to buy modems or USB ports," Abanto said.
Abanto said that this second stage offering would be commercially available as early as December this year. The executive added that sales of the packages would increase next year once the WiMax embedded laptop is available.
State incumbent operator Cantv already offers a similar package called "Internet equipado," including a PC and a broadband connection.
Movilmax, which operates in capital Caracas, is controlled by compatriot telecoms operator Omnivisión.
